Benefits

Kentucky Blood Center offers various benefits to both full time employees (scheduled for 30+ hours per week) and part-time employees. Some of our current benefits include:

Health Insurance

Choose from three health insurance plans from Humana with group rates for full time and part time employees. Single, Employee/Child(ren), Employee/Spouse, and Family coverage is available.

Dental Insurance

Coverage from Delta Dental with group rates for full time and part time employees. Single, Employee/Child(ren), Employee/Spouse, and Family coverage is available.

Long Term Disability

KBC pays the premium for employees who are scheduled to work 30+ hours per week. Term Life Insurance/Accidental Death and Dismemberment
KBC pays the premium for employees who are scheduled to work 20+ hours per week. Flexible

Spending Accounts (FSA)

Our medical and dependent care FSAs allow full-time employees to pay for eligible out-of-pocket expenses on a pretax basis. Employees put a predetermined amount of money aside each pay period, via payroll deductions, and then submit claims for reimbursement.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

KBC offers a confidential EAP that is designed to help employees deal with any issues that interfere with every day living.

Retirement Saving Plans

403(b)
KBC offers this voluntary retirement plan through TIAA-CREF. Employees are eligible to enroll on date of hire.

Employer Sponsored Money Purchase Plan

After 12 months of service, Kentucky Blood Center employees are automatically enrolled in KBC's Money Purchase Plan. In this Plan, KBC currently contributes 10% of the employee's salary, on a monthly basis, into an individual retirement account through TIAA-CREF. Employees are vested at 20% each year and are fully vested after five (5) years in the Plan.

Paid Time Off

Vacation

Full-time, non-exempt employees earn two (2) weeks per year, which will increase by one (1) week at the beginning of the 5th, 11th, and 19th year of employment. Vacation hours for part time employees, who average eight (8) hours or more per week, are pro-rated on a quarterly basis.
Exempt employees earn three (3) weeks per year, which will increase by one (1) week at the beginning of the 5th, 11th, and 19th year of employment.

Holidays

KBC observes six (6) holidays per year: New Year's Day, Memorial Day Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Full-time employees receive eight (8) hours of holiday pay and part-time employees receive four (4) hours of pay for each of the designated holidays.

Leading by Example Awards

Kentucky Blood Center honored four area businesses with the 2009 Leading By Example Awards. East Kentucky Broadcasting in Pikeville, Clear Channel Radio in Somerset, and S&S Tire Auto Service Centers and Clean Sweep Car Wash in Lexington were recognized for their generous and continued dedication to Kentucky Blood Center and Kentucky blood donors.

Pikeville Bus Dedication

Thanks to the generosity of the United States Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Blood Center has a new bloodmobile to use for community blood collections in the Pikeville region. The bus was dedicated at a recent Pike County Chamber of Commerce's After Hours.
