Plasma Donations

Plasma is the fluid part of the blood. Plasma contains protein, salts and clotting factors. Plasma transfusions benefit burn or trauma patients, organ transplant and plasma exchange patients. Plasma can be stored frozen for up to one year.

Donor requirements:

  • must be male
  • must be at least 16-years-old. 16-year old donors require parental permission. Download the permission form here.
  • must weigh at least 110 pounds
  • must have an adequate blood iron level

The automated plasma pheresis donation process uses specially-designed equipment that separates the plasma from the blood and then returns the rest of the blood back to the donor. The procedure takes about one hour.

Donors may give plasma every 28 days.
